How to quickly land a spot in a psych hospital: complain all wild-eyed, while rocking back and forth, that a cactus is trying to have sex with you. I didn’t ask anymore questions, because I knew everything I needed to know.

But did the cactus do the decent thing buy them lunch first?

I had a similar response to a woman who showed up to our ER after being picked up on the street with altered mental status. She was alert and calm and didn’t really have any complaints. She said that she didn’t know if she had family. Spotting her obviously grandchild-crafted necklace, I asked her, “Well, who made your necklace for you?” When she answered, “Satan,” I knew I had a dispo.

In all fairness, I’d think we’d all react similarly if we thought we were about to be cactus-raped.

That cactus sounds like a prick!

Psych hosptals are horrible. Ewh. I was in one for 8 days for suicide attempts and cutting up me right leg. The ER doctor told insurance I was there for a medical and not a mental reason. That right there saved me a very significant amount of money.
I only had to pay ~$200. If it was considered mental, it would go up to about ~$1700. I will never think of ER docs the same way. <3

Dinner reservations, from a waiter’s perspective, probably shares similarities with a patient in the ED, from a physician’s perspective?

I hope he/she didn’t come to your hospital after seeing/reading my blog of July 14th.
Cactus pictures I stole from the internets maybe NSFW.
