Dude! I wonder if you grow tired of hearing this but you are not alone. Our specialty is quite the ball of stress. Nobody is gonna get it until they do it but you’re doing a good job getting the point across. I’m at about the same point that you are at and people I trust farther along than us have advised me that we are having precocious EM consciousness. We’re not supposed to feel like this for another 15 years. There *is* a plan B though. Find a slower more humane practice if you want to stay in EM. Or, work in academics and help guide the poor young residents out of making choices they’ll regret. If you see an occasional conscious resident… GRAB’em and teach them the secrets of EM (that it can really blow). Do not follow the money. Offline I could write a treatise but I’ll spare you (more of) it here. Being around Balut can suck your soul but there are ways to use your EM training to have an awesome life (but you’ll have to disregard the EM conventional wisdom). Ever seen an ER doctor in a busy community practice over 50 who isn’t the weirdest guy you’ve ever met? There is a reason for that. And, even though we can’t keep it in sight, you are doing wonderful things for people, try to remember that too. Please excuse the blabbering
